How to Repair the Damaged Plastic Speakers Yourself

Although most plastic speakers can provide years of trouble-free service, like everything else, they may require repair from time to time. Aging, humidity, and overdrive are common reasons why speakers fail and require repair.

Many speaker systems have two or three independent speaker drive units, each unit usually covering a different frequency range. Generally speaking, the smaller the drive unit, the higher the frequency range it covers. Replacing the drive unit in the speaker system is relatively simple and can be completed with a few tools and some precautions.

Repire steps

1. The first stage is to identify the loudspeaker that is causing the problem. It may be that a loudspeaker is not working, and its sound may sound distorted. So listen carefully to each speaker in the speaker system while playing music, because this is the easiest way to detect distortion.

2.Once the individual unit that is faulty has been located the next stage is to gain access to the speaker system to remove it.

In larger systems, there is a front panel to protect the speaker cloth. This can usually be removed by simply loosening it to expose the speaker drive unit.

3.Once access has been gained to the speaker, it can be unscrewed and removed. It will be attached via two wires. These may be pull off connections or they may be soldered. Remember or note the polarity of the connection. Typically one wire is red and the other black and there are similar marks on the speaker. This is to ensure the correct phasing.

4.Once removed the new unit can be selected. Fortunately hole sizes and screw fixing positions seem to be fairly standard across a wide number of units, so you may be able to select a replacement unit with the same fixing positions. Performance is also important -select a unit with a very similar performance and then the balance of the system can be maintained.

5.Assemble. Assembly is the reverse process of disassembly, so it should be fairly simple. After the assembly is completed, it can be tested, and the newly repaired speaker can enjoy its restored sound effects.

Precautions

1. First, pay attention to moisture and keep dry. The sound box is composed of paper cones, circuit components, coils, etc., which can easily cause circuit aging in a humid environment.

2. Prevent vibration and collision. Vibration will cause the speaker magnet to lose its magnetism and the circuit is disconnected.

3. The power should work under the rated power, the use of over power will cause the audio to burn out.

4. Avoid using the speaker under high temperature conditions, which may easily cause demagnetization and other situations.
